Individual savings accounts (“ISA”)

What is an ISA?

Well you’ve got this far, so you are, obviously, giving some serious thought to saving some money. An ISA is one of the most common forms of saving in the UK, and detailed below are some of the key features of an ISA to help you decide whether this is the way you want to save money:-

  • Tax free savings, which do not need to be declared to the taxman
  • You can invest up to £7,000 in a tax year
  • Transfers between ISAs are permitted and do not count towards maximum contribution
  • You can invest in stocks and shares or cash
  • There are two types of ISA – a Maxi ISA and a Mini ISA. You can invest in one Maxi ISA or two Mini ISA, but you cannot invest in both
MAXI ISA
MINI ISA
  • Stocks & shares - up to £7,000
  • Cash up to £,3000
  • Stocks & shares - up to £4,000
  • Cash - up to £3,000

When it comes to choosing an ISA in which to invest, you need to consider the level of risk that you wish to take with your money and be reassured that the provider of your chosen ISA has a strong reputation and is financially secure.
